My nursing career started at St. Lukeâs Regional Medical Center in Boise Idaho where I initially worked in Oncology.I later served as the Womenâs Health Coordinator for Southwest District Health. This experience offered me the opportunity to testify to the legislature on behalf of the hundreds of Idaho women with breast and cervical cancer to successfully pass the Every Woman Matters bill. I continue to be passionate about nursing and nurse practitioners as well as advocating for the underserved and uninsured population.
I opened Acacia Wellness Center in 2008 to provide a comprehensive approach to mental health care, blending primary care and psychiatry. Acacia Wellness Center offers services, including psychotherapy to patients on a sliding fee scale dependent upon income.
I am a founding board member and executive CEO of the Mental Health America - pending Idaho Affiliate. MHA is a non-profit organization that provides advocacy, education, resources and support to people with mental illnesses and their families.
I started my doctoral program in September 2010. My capstone project is improving therapeutic outcomes and treatment adherence by implementing psychiatric nurse practitioner house calls.
My husband has been a wonderful support to me as I pursuit my dreams. I am a mother of three beautiful daughters and enjoy spending weekends camping, horseback riding and gardening with them. I also enjoy playing the cello and scrapbooking.
On the more quirky side, I foster an orphaned elephant in Africa who is now 2 years old!
